Over 30 Rule Clarification

There was a question about the age qualification of the over 30 division.

The question was "Do players that are turning 30 during the calendar year the season is taking place count as under 30 players?"

An example of this would be Wayne Rooney is 29 and turns 30 on November 10th, 2010.  Is he considered a waiver players (under 30) for the 2010 season?

The current rule states:

All players must be at least 30 years during the year of the season (i.e. you may play if you are 29, but turning 30 this year). Each team will be allowed two waiver players between the age of 25-29 unless grand fathered*. Waiver players must be clearly identified on the official roster submitted to the league. If a player’s age is questioned, the referee will examine identification at the field and determine eligibility. A referee’s determination of eligibility on the field is final. *All players in the league in 2007 and years prior are not subject to this rule however do count against the rule "2 players under 30."

To double check this, the agenda from January 21, 2009 managers meeting was referrenced and stated:

All players must be at least 30 years during the year of the season (i.e. you may play if you are 29, but turning 30 this year.

This rule was approved as it gives teams struggling for numbers a way of getting more players.

The answer to the example is that Wayne Rooney is not a waiver player and is consider "Over 30" on the roster.

If you need any more clarification on this rule please contact us.

Thanks Shawn for looking through the old paperwork.
